HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Thank you for visiting this page to find out how to get involved.  Below, you will also find the purpose of the PTA, our objectives and structure.

How to Get Involved:

  • Join the PTA as a General Member.  A form* will be sent home in September for our membership drive.  100% participation from our parents and teachers makes the greatest difference.  The money we raise from the membership dues goes directly into the PTA budget.
  • Volunteer for Events.  A volunteer form* will be sent home in the PTA packet in September.  This is where you can sign up to help at the different PTA activities that will take place this school year including Hospitality, Holiday Shoppe, Book Fair, Spring Auction and more.
  • Participate in the PTA fundraisers and other ways to earn money for Waverly.   We have simplified our Fall fundraiser and we call it “Just Write A Check” campaign.  For more information about our fundraisers, click on the tabs “Hassle Free Donation” and “Earn Money for our School”.
  • Attend Activities.  We have lots of fun activities planned for our students and families to enjoy.
  • Volunteer to be on the Board of Directors.  We will start recruiting for our Executive Board and Committees in March for the following school year.  There will be lots of communication, but if you are interested in learning more now, please contact Kelly Balchunas, PTA President.

*These forms will also be added to our “Forms” tab.

Purpose of the PTA:

The main purpose of the Waverly PTA is to provide support to our school which includes our students, staff and families.

Four Main Objectives:

  1. Provide programs and financial support to help enrich the school’s educational goals for our children
  2. Connect students and families through a variety of activities
  3. Provide support and show our appreciation to the entire Waverly staff
  4. Plan fundraising initiatives so we can execute our first three objectives

PTA Structure:

  • Board of Directors:  Lead, plan and manage the PTA budget
    • Executive Board Members: 9 elected positions; President, Past President, 2 Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and 2 Council Delegates
    • Committee Members: 24 committees with about 50 volunteers
  • General Membership:
    • All Waverly parents and staff are encouraged to join the PTA.
    • Membership dues raise about $3,000 towards our PTA budget while a small portion is also sent to the MD PTA.

Executive Board Positions:

  • Term for each executive board position is one year with the option to serve a second year.  A person can serve for 2 consecutive years per position.
  • Slate of nominees is presented at the April General PTA meeting and elections take place at the May General PTA meeting.

Committees:

We have about 24 committees with approximately 50 volunteers.

Each committee varies in number of committee members depending on what their job entails. Their job is to plan and manage the event or activity that their committee supports.  This could include event planning, coordinating with an outside vendor, communications, and managing money.
